10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t exciting for a lot of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter come to an end and we begin looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up over the winter.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of your house?
The exterior of your house could use a little tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your house in Quincy, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the optimal time of year to clean out your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris collected during the fall and winter. Pollen is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are scavenging for places to build their homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not cause you too much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows will be trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a tiring chore, and it will need a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You don’t want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. Which means you will want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is quick, effective, and doesn’t cost very much. You can pressure clean your house, outdoor furniture, patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they won’t stain your house, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem silly since you will just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use in the summer, so it can be easy to forget about it during the winter when you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough shape the first time you step onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little hard work – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are common roof issues in Quincy. While you are cleaning the exterior of your house, it is a great time to pressure clean your roof as well, but you will need to use a different method than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you notice streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles can’t be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.
The ideal method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then leave it sit. This solution will kill any organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Spruce up the Front
The front of your house is likely what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will improve your day, and it will encourage you to spend more time outside.
Clean your porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Wipe cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean forgotten areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Garden Tools
You will probably be spending more time outside, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize everything you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have an exact area outside your house – somewhere that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Taking the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your house so much more during the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes make a huge impact on the overall look of your house.
Kill weeds near your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you might be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for months, your grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family sick.
Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind particles that can get into food) and a basic dish soap or degreaser.
You could probably finish these jobs after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Quincy Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
